Introduction

The Northampton Climbing Club is a group of climbers from the Northamptonshire area and beyond who regularly climb at the Pinnacle Climbing Centre.

We organise trips to the Peak District and North Wales on a fairly regular basis and trips are becoming more frequent as our group grows.

Your ability or climbing style is not an issue, we all have various skill levels and all enjoy different types of climbing. Whether it be a long multi pitch route or a gnarly boulder problem, you can bet we will do it!

So don't be shy come climb with us, just ask for us at the Pinnacle Climbing Centre. We are normally there Monday, Wednesday and Friday evenings.

History: My climbing life started in January 2011 when I discovered my local climbing centre by chance with a friend. I have a bouldering induction and from that moment I could see myself doing this on a more regular basis. A year down the line and here I am, in a situation I could never have imagined when I first started climbing. Pushing the limits of what I can do indoors and out in the big wide world.

Favourite Climb and style: My first love is bouldering and its where I focus a lot of my training these days but I am also a big fan of sport climbing and trad so I’m really looking forward to getting us all out together to share some awesome routes. My favourite route to date is Green Gut (HS 4a) at Froggatt, a lovely corner climb with relaxing views across the crag when you reach the top.

NCC: My goal for the club is to give other people who were in my position a year ago the opportunity to climb with passionate individuals who are really motivated to get out there and push the sport to its limits. I would really like to see us adventuring off into other areas of the sport as well like Via Ferrata and Deep Water Soloing.

History: I’ve had quite a broken history of climbing, taking a beginner’s course when I was 18 and then not doing anything with it. I used to climb on a very irregular basis at Peterborough Climbing Wall, and kept up that laksydasical approach when I moved to Northampton in 2010, climbing outside a few times throughout the year. Only in the last 4 months have I started to really ‘hit it’, and the people in this very club are a big reason for that.

Favourite Climb and style: Indoors I am a bouldering fan and probably spend most of my time down the centre in that room, but outdoors I love trad climbing, especially huge mountain multipitch routes. I also love getting out in the winter, nothing can beat standing on a ridgeline in frigid air with blue sunny skies.

My favourite climb to date is ‘Tennis Shoe’ (HS 4b) on Idwal slabs. Amazing relaxed multipitch on quartz speckled Rhyolite, with options to continue right to the summit of Glyder Fawr.

NCC: I really want the club to offer something new for everyone, whether it’s complete beginners of experienced indoor climbers who haven’t hit the grit yet. In the same vein, I’m hoping that members will introduce us to new things to try, and I would like to set a long term goal of heading to the Alps to summit the mighty Matterhorn.

Trip Officer

Name: James, or Snowy, or Mr Yeti Man

Born: 19-Oct-1980

Phone: 07814027623

History: Started climbing when I was about 9yrs old and was taught by my Dad. I was introduced to the concept of climbing mountains the hard way “for fun”. Stopped climbing when I was 15yrs in favour of rugby. Started climbing again in October 2010 when I discovered the Pinnacle Centre Northampton.

Favourite Climb: Cracked Arête (VS 4b), Carreg Mianog, Ogwen Valley (you cannot beat the ridiculous move at half height for exposure)

The Future: Hoping to achieve consistent E1 climbing this summer.

NCC: As trip officer I want get the club excited about climbing outdoors. Whether it’s a bouldering trip, a long multi-pitch mountain adventure, some hardcore technical trad, or some beautiful sport lines. Train hard, climb easy.
